My doubts and uncertainties - Drug Blunder At KKH
If right at the on-start, KKH were to place my mum in an isolation ward immediately due to their negligence, I would not question their sincerity and severity towards this matter.
But for my mum and Mrs Yip, they were only transferred to an isolation ward on the second day, perhaps after some assessment by the higher management/authority of the hospital.
Anyone undergoing chemotherapy would have their immunity level lowered due to the drug effects and the hospital knows that better than anyone, no?
Like I've mentioned earlier and to the inquiry panel, their apologies so far (but nothing heard out from the pharmacists, so I wouldn't know if they're chinese nationals or not) and their seriousness in view of such a blunder mean nothing to us when what we see and experience thus far does not justify their statement!!!
If a medical professional and senior oncologist, Dr Soh Lay Tin, can go on to ask us if we prefer to have the drug administered over 6 minutes when her initial prescription was over 3 days due to lower risks, how can my family now trust Dr Soh and KKH for days to come?
My mum is now experiencing discoloration of her tongue and finger nails too...

I can relate to your pain with your post today.... maybe write with earnst, to your MP on the present condition of your mom...for a start
And just for info, KK is placing part of the blame on the manufacturer for designing the pump to be similiar to ones that are of a different calibration. IMO, this may be a smoke screen.
Who decided, choose and approved the procurement of the pumps that were in circulation and use in KK anyway? Don't they know what equipment they were using and that they may cause confusion?
The newspaper also reported that staff fatigue was not the attributing factor as KK claimed. For my case, implied low nurses to patients ratio as dictated by MOH was sited as a reason for not attending to my relative's needs during hospitalization.
Maybe KK should show the public the types of pumps that caused the confusion, to help other hospitals and other patients to be more aware. Does KK dare to do that if their claim is of solid foundation? Or risk being sued by the manufacturer for going overboard?
Bro, the above are just some ammo for your battle. Remember the oath we took during ns enlistment? This is family member now...don't let them throw smoke then disappear.
Most nurses do work hard, they are the cows in the hospital. If it is their masters that were negligent, let not the cows take the blame... for the sake of justice.
Hang tough, my prayers that your mom can fight the adverse effects of the drug.
Get a 2nd opinion from another doctor. Screw the damn KKH doctor who told you 6min is OK. I'm no doctor, but it's clear he's bullshitting.
Please read this: http://www.chemocare.com/BIO/fluorouracil.asp
I don't know if your mum drug was fluorouracil or doxorubicin, you posted different stuff in different posts. But anyway check this out too:

Sorry to hear about your mother. My aunt was recently MIS-diagnosed with brain cancer when she was perfectly fine!
I am a pharmacist and I take very careful consideration in all the medications dispensed even up to the point where I ask the patients what the medication is for? This is the worst kind of error for patients and pharmacists.
The pharmacists involved should stand up and take the blame. Their supervisors must come out and take the blame. Lastly, the hospital must take all the blame.
right now, they are just pushing the buck around when we all know the extent of the damage and the nature of the mistake.
For the medical doctors to come out and say it is okay.... is so stupid because you can tell him, " It is NOT okay because that is not what the prescription was written for!"
You have all the right to be mad and angry. Good luck with your mother.

Look for Dr Myint Soe who is an expert in this matter if u need legal advice.
There are a number of doctors who used to be at the GCC in KKH, but since last year, they have left the hospital to go into private practice.
These are the ones who are really good. I am not sure who Dr Soh is, but if you no longer trust her, you might want to consider seeking out the old KKH doctors.
One of them used to be the chairman of KKH and is a renowned gynae-onco in Singapore. He left the hospital last year. They are now with Thomson Medical's cancer centre.
Good luck.
